Stay Safe on a Rainy Worksite

SoCal has already been hit by two big rainstorms, and more may be heading our way. Before they get here, it’s the perfect time to remind contractors and construction professionals of some simple ways to stay safe when working on a rainy worksite.

  • Wear rain gear—ideally including a coat and pants or overalls. Be sure it’s not too big for you, so it won’t interfere with your movements.
  • Beneath your gear, wear something toasty so you can stay warm even if you do get wet.
  • Wear shoes with deep treads to help you keep from slipping on a rainy worksite. If your footwear has a top that extends above the ankle, and your rain gear extends to your ankles, you’ll reduce the likelihood of getting water in your shoes. (For the same reason, refrain from tucking your pants inside your shoe tops.)
  • Wear a hood or hat to keep rain out of your eyes (but be sure it doesn’t interfere with your range of vision).
  • Wear bright-colored, reflective vests or rain gear to ensure that you can be easily seen, even on a gloomy day.
